Have you ever tried
Scripture Writing?
I started Scripture Writing several years ago as a practice in my morning devotional time.
It’s as simple as this: find some scripture, copy it over onto blank paper or in a journal.
But beyond the simplicity, it’s something much deeper and greater when you take the time to dig in to the passage.
The act of handwriting has been lost in our culture of typing with our thumbs or sending a voice memo to a friend. By slowing down and taking it phrase by phrase from the Bible onto paper, your brain can process the words and take time to think about what you’re reading.
How to do it.
Writing out verses is an incredible way to slow yourself down and take time with the words & meaning. It’s a prayerful process to approach the Word of God in a slower method than simply reading.
Consider using the same journal throughout the year for your scripture writing.
Before you begin each day, take a moment and pray for wisdom and any personal application the Lord has for you through the passage.
Take your time! Write the verse out slowly. Do any words or phrases stand out to you?
Try journaling! Let the verse be a starting point and then continue writing out your prayer to the Lord. Bring to Him your joy, your lament, your celebration, your questions. There’s no wrong way to do this.
I’ll be posting new lists monthly. Want to get them dropped straight in your inbox? I’ve got you.
Grab your list.
Note: you may notice this isn't a 30-day guide. These passages are of varying length and we all have busy lives. When I've done something similar before with a 30-day list, I found if I got behind I was overwhelmed trying to catch up and couldn't enjoy the practice as much. Stretch these out over extra days if you need to – and give yourself grace if you miss a day. Bottom line: enjoy your time in the Word. And you can always go hunt down more verses on the topic if you want 30 full days!
